INFORMATION REQUEST: NUMBERS OF DOGS ON INDEX OF EXEMPTED DOGS:
In response to one of our Freedom of Information requests, Defra has provided the following information to DDA Watch in March 2016, relating to the Index of Exempted Dogs:
Q) How many dogs are currently registered:
There are 3,100 dogs currently registered on the Index of Exempted Dogs.
Of those dogs exempted, the breakdown is as follows:
- Pit bull terrier type - 3,091
- Dogo Argentino - 6
- Fila Brasiliero - 0
- Japanese Tosa - 3
Q) How many dogs are in the process of being exempted but not yet completed?
There has been 212 Contingent Destruction Orders issued by the courts but exemption hasn't yet been fully completed.
Q) How many dogs have a different registered owner to keeper?
We also asked how many exempted dogs are registered with a different registered owner to keeper and the answer is 88.
A year earlier (February 2015) there were 124 exempted dogs registered with a different registered owner to keeper.
